Understand what you are paying for

The nail industry loves to complicate things. Different product names for the same thing, methods sold as brands. Here are the real differences, minus the marketing.

Gel or acrylic, what is the difference?

Both are resins that harden. Acrylic cures in the air with a strong-smelling monomer. Gel cures under a UV or LED lamp, has no smell, and stays a little more flexible. Cassy works with hard gel: strong enough for an extension, flexible enough to move with the natural nail.

Gel-X, dual forms, hard gel: why so many names?

Gel-X is a brand of ready-to-apply soft gel extensions. Dual forms are reusable molds used to sculpt a hard gel extension directly on the nail. The results look similar; the method and durability change. Often it is the same gel sold under different names.

Extension or natural nail?

An extension adds length. An overlay strengthens the natural nail without adding any. If your nails break before reaching the length you want, an overlay is often the real answer. A well-done set protects the nail; it does not damage it.

What exactly is a Russian manicure?

Cuticle work done with an e-file, bit by bit, instead of cutting with nippers. It takes longer and requires real training, but the contour is sharp, the colour sits within a millimetre of the edge, and the result visibly lasts longer.
